TORPEDOES CASINO POLICY
Preamble
- Calgary Torpedoes is a registered non-profit organization and is able to subscribe to Alberta Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis (AGLC) Charitable Gaming Program. This program provides the club with a significant portion of revenue used to operate the Club. The AGLC determines which operating costs can benefit from casino revenues. It is the club’s responsibility to meet the requirements set out by the AGLC to remain eligible for the program.
Definitions
- Member – Any parent or guardian of a player. Any person of the community who has applied, been approved by the board and paid membership fee. All need to be in good standing.
Purpose
- This policy describes how these requirements are achieved and sets forth clear and transparent expectations for Torpedoes members.
Casino Allocations
- Torpedoes Club is awarded a Casino from AGLC approximately once every eighteen (18) to twenty-two (22) months.
- Casino assignments are two (2) days encompassing daytime and nighttime shifts.
- Each shift requires 13-16 positions to be filled.
Requirement
- Each member is required to work at least one (1) shift per athlete registered, with the possibility of two (2) casino shift(s) dependent on club athlete registration, per awarded Casino.
- In the Season that AGLC has awarded the club with a Casino, a Casino Cheque of $500 will be required per member per athlete.
- Casino Cheque will be post dated for after the Casino Date
- Casino Cheque will only be cashed if each member is not able to fulfill their required shifts.
- Casino Cheques cashed/ not returned will be deposited into the Club Cash Account and used towards the operating costs of the club.
In the event bond cheques are not received by the first practice, registration will be considered incomplete and the athlete will not be allowed in the water until the bond cheques are received. Until registration is complete, your athlete will not be entered into the Water Polo Canada database and therefore will not be covered by club insurance.
Pledge
- During the Torpedoes registration all parents agree to the following in writing: As a parent of a member of The Calgary Torpedoes Water Polo Club (the “Club”), I recognize that I may be obligated to provide a fundraising/volunteer bond for each athlete I register as part of the registration process. All fundraising activities help the Club over all, and are endorsed by the Club Executive. I understand, and agree, that my Fundraising/Volunteer commitment payment (paid by cheque deposit) will be cashed in full or partially in the event I do not meet the fundraising and/or volunteer commitment for the season. I understand that cheques are required to be submitted at the time of registration, orientation or prior to the first practice to activate my athlete’s registration in the club. All bond requirements are per athlete registered, not per family registered.
Casino Shift Assignments
- Casino events will be posted and communicated via the Torpedoes Ramp/website.
- Members can sign up for shifts via the website, using the name of the person attending the shift with the corresponding athlete in brackets.
- Members are responsible for finding their own replacement if they are unable to attend their assigned shifts.
- Replacements must be sent to the Casino Chair/Organizer/ Lead in advance of the shift. These are regulated positions and changes must meet AGLC rules.
Exemptions to this Policy
- It is acknowledged extenuating circumstances may exist. If the member is unable to complete their Casino Shift requirements and feel additional consideration should be warranted, please submit a request for review in writing to the Calgary Torpedoes Board of Directors for special consideration.
- In the event of extenuating circumstances, the board of directors may request that the member completes additional volunteer hours to offset the time not able to be fulfilled at the casino event.
Review Date and Approval Date
- This policy can be reviewed annually either by the Board or a committee assigned by the Board for such purpose. Changes should be recommended and presented to the Board for approval.
